Heavy metal: a misused term?

چکیده
The use of the term “heavy metal” is regularly questioned by scientific community. Here, we followed evolution (1970–2020) in number published papers including this their title. Thus, can evidence a continuous, albeit sometimes stabilizing, increase especially environmental journals. After several other warning opinions, propose that it should be replaced literature terms like “metal”, “metalloid”, “trace metal elements” or “potentially toxic element”.

RESEARCH PAPERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE PUBLISHED IN THOUSANDS OF SCIENCE journals every year. The quality of these papers clearly has to be evaluated, not only to determine their accuracy and contribution to fields of research, but also to help make informed decisions about rewarding scientists with funding and appointments to research positions. One measure often used to determine the qua...

In general, irritable health concern related to heavy metal (accumulation) might be mainly divided into 2 types, i.e. heavy metal poisoning caused by excessive extrinsic exposure and genetic disorders such as Wilson disease (as reviewed by Osredkar et al. in this issue). As for the former type, unlike the latter one, it can be said that the health damage spread with the development of the civil...

متن کاملHeavy Metal Toxicity
Heavy metals are metallic elements which have a high atomic weight and a density much greater (at least 5 times) than water. There are more than 20 heavy metals, but four are of particular concern to human health: lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), and inorganic arsenic (As). According to the U.S. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. These four heavy metals are four of the top ...
